One of the outstanding firms in the nation's capital is the McGuire Funeral Service, Inc., founded in 1912 by Dr. Robert G. McGuire, whose father operated a pioneer drugstore bearing the family name at the corner of 9th and U Streets N.W. in the City of Washington, District of Columbia.  In the early 1920s Dr. McGuire moved the funeral establishment from 8th Street and Florida Avenue N.W. to a group of row houses in the 1800 block of 9th Street N.W. where it remained until 1974.  It has been said that this group of buildings was the first "funeral parlor" in the city, having rooms resembling a living room or parlor where wakes and visitations could be held.  Today our firm is located at 7400 Georgia Avenue N.W., just north of the old Walter Reed Army Medical Center and south of Silver Spring.

Over the years, McGuire Funeral Service, Inc. has served over 29,000 decedents.  They have come from all walks of life, many nations, many cultures and many beliefs.  The establishment has had the honor of serving the families of many public figures and notable citizens.  But the firm's success, derived from its founder, comes from serving all the families that call on us, no matter what their station in life, with dignity, honor and respect that is due to all.
