William (“Bill”) Douglas Clark was born on May 11, 1938, in St. Louis, MO. He was the eldest of two children born to the late Wesley and Hazel Clark. He graduated from Sumner High School in St. Louis, MO.
He graduated from St. Louis University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Finance. Bill went on to earn a Master of Science in Procurement Management from American University in Washington, DC.
Bill served in the Army, and a year before he was honorably discharged, he served on a special assignment in the Vietnam War.
His professional journey encompassed various executive procurement management roles, including Purchasing Manager for the MITRE Corporation, McLean, VA; Director of Material Management, Humana Group Health, Washington, DC; Assistant Director of University Services, George Mason University. He also served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of the District of Columbia. Bill was a member of the Metropolitan Washington Minority Purchasing Council.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill was a faithful member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington, DC. A passionate history buff, particularly in African American history, Bill actively participated with various community service organizations. He served on the Black History Committee, Friends of the Thomas Balch Library in Loudoun County, VA. His commitment extended to volunteering at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian American History Museum.
Bill was a proud Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, member of the Beta Nu Chapter of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity (“The Boule”), and the Uplanders Social Club.
On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the sun set on Bill’s life. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Clark.
Bill leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of sixty years, Mary; his son, Peter and daughter-in-law, Dionne of Atlanta, GA; sisters-in-law, Lillian Clark of Temple Hills, MD; Lucy Nevels of St. Paul, MN; brother-in-Law, Paul Nevels of Minneapolis, MN; Sidney J. Reedy, Jr. of St. Louis, MO; nieces and nephews, Corey Nevels of Washington, DC; Benjamen Nevels of Omaha, NE; Cara K. Reedy of St. Louis, MO; Carissa Schultz of Perrysburg, OH; Nicole Woolman of Lincoln, NE; Natalie Nevels of Lincoln, NE; Anastasia Nevels of St. Paul, MN; James Clark, Jr. of Waldorf, MD; and Derek Clark of Hanover, PA.
