William Anthony Bratton Obituary

William Anthony Bratton, affectionately known by his family and friends as “W.A.” or simply “Dub,” was the beloved third son of the late David Sr. and Eliza E. Hall Bratton.  Born on February 22, 1934, in Winnsboro, South Carolina, Dub grew up with a strong sense of faith, family, and community.  He attended the Fairfield County Public School system, and graduated from Winnsboro High School in 1952, where he was known for his quiet strength, unwavering kindness and enduring spirit.  Throughout his life, Dub touch the lives of many with his presence and character. 


Dub will be remembered for the deep love for family, music, and meaningful connection with those closest to him.  He had a true passion for socializing, often bringing together loved ones for a gathering filled with laughter, conversation, and the sounds of his favorite music creating a warm and joyful atmosphere. Dub found happinesses in shopping—whether it was searching for unique antiques to brighten up his home or picking out a new piece of clothing to add to his wardrobe.  He also, loved exploring the latest electronic gadgets he came across on TV or in a magazine and he never passed up a chance to play the lottery.  His vibrant spirit, love for life and unwavering dedication to family and friends will be deeply missed and yet fondly remembered by all who knew him.


William was preceded in death by three brothers, David Bratton Jr., Herbert Bratton, and John Bratton Sr.; one sister, Andrena Bratton Bryant; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dorsey Bratton and Thelma Glover Bratton; and one niece, Betty Bratton.   He is survived by his loving nieces and nephews: Andrena Blake (Stephen), Michael Bryant, Jocelyn Bratton Simpson, Kevin D. Bratton (Harriet), John E. Bratton, David M. Bratton (Kecha), and JuJuan A. Bratton; Twelve great nieces and nephews; two great-great nieces; a devoted cousin, Margie Sturdivant; a cherished friend, Dr. Les Mobray; and a host of cousins, extended relatives and loyal friends.
