Wanda Lofton was born on September 4, 1950, in Goldsboro, N.C. She was the oldest daughter of Heloise Coley Lofton and Andrew Lofton. Wanda attended and graduated from the Public School System of Goldsboro. After graduating she attended the prestigious Hampton University, where she graduated in 1972 earning a BA in Education concentrating on Library Science. She had always been an avid reader.

After graduating, she decided to move to Washington, D.C to further enhance her interest in many art forms. She also enjoyed the social scene of the 70’s. Wanda had many friends, and they enjoyed many happy times together. Wanda retired from Howard University in 2012. Prior to retiring she worked part-time at DC Public Library where she was among the things she loved most, books. She continued at the library after retiring. A couple of years later she worked for DC Public Schools as a substitute teacher. She was a no-nonsense teacher but very caring. She especially enjoyed working with the Pre-School students.

Wanda had a good sense of humor. She was very knowledgeable and outspoken. To really know her was to love her and she will be sorely missed. She is surviving by her cousin, Dr. James Coley, other loving family members and friends.
