Saundra Johnson-Smith Obituary

Saundra Yvette Johnson-Smith was born to the late LeRoy Johnson and Trellis Cleveland Johnson in Washington, DC on Saturday, October 26, 1946. Sadly, she departed this earthly life on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, but we find joy in knowing she was surrounded by her loving family as she transitioned to be with our Heavenly Father.

Saundra was raised in a traditional Roman Catholic family and attended Catholic schools including Sacred Heart, which is a Johnson family tradition. Saundra went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Federal City College (UDC), after which she earned an MBA from Howard University School of Business. She had a successful career holding various positions in leadership for multiple established organizations, most notable her tenure with Bell Atlantic. Although a native Washingtonian, Saundra eventually moved to Fairfax Virginia to raise her family and this is where  she called home for 42 years.

Before anything else, Saundra was a mom. A boy mom! Anyone who knew her, knew how much she loved her sons. She was also a doting grandmother. She has 4 grandchildren to carry on her legacy. She was proud of each of them and was always willing to share a story or two whenever you saw her. Additionally, Saundra was a walking history book because she would always educate you on something from the past that ended up being useful information. Here’s something she would want “y’all” to know- she enjoyed watching Western movies and listening to Country music in her downtime. She was also a fan of R&B Oldies.

Saundra leaves to cherish her memories and honor her life, her four sons Allen Kenneth Johnson (Torri) of Burlington, North Carolina, Eric Voydee Smith, Jason Michael Smith, and Steven Henry Smith of Fairfax Virginia. The grandkids, Tristine Okonye (Jeffrey), Tahir Sharif, Bryce Johnson, and Ava Johnson loved their grandmother in this life and into the next. She also will be remembered and forever loved by her siblings, LeRoy Jr. (preceded in death), Gary (Chico), Gregory Sr., Charles Sr. (Fontella), Michael (preceded in death), Michelle, Jennifer, John (Audrey), and Barbara. There is an entire host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other extended family members who will smile fondly when they hear her name or see something that reminds them of Saundra.

The family would like to thank you for taking time to read this obituary, for every call, text, card, or kind word that was extended to us during this difficult time. It was all very much needed and appreciated.
