Rose Marie Holland Obituary

Today we gather as a family, in fellowship with friends, to celebrate the life of Rose Marie Holland, who peacefully departed this life at her home on Friday, April 12, 2024.

Rose Marie Butler Holland began her beautiful life on August 10, 1928 in Washington, DC. She was the quiet daughter of the late Eugene Thaddeus Butler, Sr. and Catherine Ann Arnold Butler.

Rose Marie was raised in North Brentwood, MD along with her siblings who preceded her in death, a sister, Iris Louise Butler Nelson and two brothers, Eugene Thaddeus Butler, Jr. and Clement (Fats) Liguori Butler, Sr. She attended grade school at St. Augustine Catholic School and graduated from Armstrong High School. Rose was joined in matrimony with Thomas Early Holland, Jr. in 1947, and together they reared three children, Carolyn Smith, and Jerome and Cynthia (Kitty) Holland.

Rose Marie worked numerous jobs throughout her life before retiring from the University of Maryland after 34 years of service. She held many positions during that tenure.

She was a member of St. Jerome’s and St. James Catholic Churches. She also attended the noon day bible study at the North Brentwood AME Church. In recent years, she faithfully attended mass for the shut-in and received communion at home.

Rose Marie was an active member of the Knights of St. John’s Ascension Ladies Auxiliary #109 since June of 1947. She was a council woman for the town of North Brentwood, MD from 1998-2002. She served as President of the Senior Club for many years enjoying the Birthday Club and the Lunch Bunch.

She loved music, dancing and shopping. She had a massive collection of angels that she treasured. When she was able, she was always on the go and usually on foot. She loved to walk. Rose Marie lived a full life and will be missed. Rose Marie leaves to cherish her memory children, Carolyn Smith, Jerome (Michelle) and Cynthia (Kitty) Holland; grandchildren, Thomas Holland III, Belinda Smith, Jamal Washington and Angelica Anderson; great grandson, Ivy Matthews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
