Robert Foster Cephas was the youngest of three children born to the late Dr. Charles Robert Cephas and Bessie Foster Cephas in New Brighton, PA.
He graduated from New Brighton High School in 1962 and then moved to Washington, DC to attend Howard University where he majored in Zoology. Upon graduation, Robert went to medical school but later joined the United States Air Force. He spent much of his career educating others: as a science teacher in DCPS, a race relations officer in the Air Force, and as a higher education administrator at UMBC and Montgomery College.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Grevious Cephas; his son, Charles Robert Cephas II of Atlanta, GA; his daughter, Chellee Renee Cephas of Silver Spring, MD; two grandsons Edward Lawrence Cephas of Atlanta, GA and Langston Robert Cephas of Silver Spring, MD; two sisters Rose Willis of Pooler, GA and Vickie Corneille (Gerard) of Virginia Beach, VA; his sister-in-law, Dr. Carole Beckford (Evon) of New Rochelle, NY, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and life-long friends.
