Paulette M. Crampton Obituary

Paulette  M. Crampton, was born on August 14. 1946 in Washington DC to the late Paul D. Crampton  and Bernice Edelin Crampton. Her mother subsequently remarried  to Wilburn James Pinkard and Paulette was raised by her mother and  stepfather in the Bloomingdale area of Washington DC.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Dwayne Edelin Pinkard. Paulette departed this life on Sunday April 20, 2025.


Paulette attended public schools in Washington DC.  She graduated from Western High School. currently known as the Duke Ellington  School of the  Arts. After she graduated, she worked a year as  a telephone operator in the telephone company in Washington DC. She then enlisted in the Army where she served for seven years and finished her service as a  Staff Sargent. She received an honorable discharge in 1983.  While in the military,  Paulette traveled  throughout  western Europe and Korea.


Upon her return to civilian life, Paulette worked at the Deparment of Commerce while attending the University of the District of Columbia (UDC).  She graduated  from UDC with a degree in Urban Planning. She then worked at Walter Reed Army Hospital in the Department of  Nephrology as an Administrative Assistant until retirement. 


Paulette was a devoted volunteer at Veterans Administration Hospital in Washington DC. She attended Mt Pleasant Baptist Church where she served on the usher board and as a teacher in children's ministry. She loved bowling and won several trophies. She was an ardent animal lover and cared for several dogs throughout her life. She also loved to garden in her yard.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.


Leaving to cherish her memories are her sister, Patricia A. Wisdom, brother, Darryl W. Pinkard and sister-in-law  Valera Pinkard, nieces, Shana N. Collier and  Latonya Pinkard, nephew Joseph  Pinkard, step neice, Sequitta Banks, step brother Dr. William Durousseau, cousins Connie Brown and Diane Murphy-Brown, and a host of other cousins, friends and colleagues.
