Nellvina "Doll Baby" LaBeach, 101, was born in Albany, GA. and raised in Macon, GA.and passed away peacefully at home in Washington, DC on October 6, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Nell was the daughter of Ila and Alonzo Ming, both of Coffee Springs, AL. She was predeceased by her sisters: Velma Ming, of Macon, GA; Violetta Lee of Baltimore/Grasonville, MD; and Lenora Cobb of Baltimore MD. Nell leaves behind her husband, Sam LaBeach of 71 years; son Samuel A. LaBeach, III; granddaughter, Courtney Janell LaBeach; grandson, Samuel A. LaBeach, IV; and several nieces/nephews, grandnieces/nephews, and cousins.
Nell graduated from Ballard Normal High School in Macon GA; Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD; Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital, Jersey City, NJ; Catholic University, Atlantic Business College; DC Teachers College (now UDC); and Trinity University). Nell worked at Harlem Hospital; Provident Hospital, Baltimore, MD; Freedmen Hospital, DC; Morgan State University; and Gallanger Hospital (now DC General). She was a Practical Nurse instructor at Martha Washington Vocational School and Federal City College (now UDC); Stenographer, General Counsel Office, Veterans Administration, and DCPS teacher.
Nell was active in her church and community, serving as church secretary, president of the Sunshine Club, and president the Deaconess Board. Nell was a member of the Kappa Silhouettes, the MSU DC Alumni Chapter; volunteer nurse for the U.S. Youth Games; Neighborhood Patrol; the Shepherd Park Civic Association; Ballard Normal HS Reunion; and former Board member for the Mayor's Commission on the Aged. Nell loved to travel and enjoyed sewing, playing the piano, and cooking Christmas dinner for her extended family and spending time with her grandchildren.
