Melinda Bernadette Hawkins was born in Washington, D.C. on January 18, 1967 along with the late Melissa King, her twin sister, to Anna Hawkins and the late Willie Brown Robinson. She departed this life surround-ed by her loving family on July 26, 2020 at Washington Hospital Center. Melinda attended St. Benedict and St. Patrick Catholic Schools in Washington, DC before attending University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She also attended summer programs at Howard University where she met Gregory Doubt. In 1990, she married Gregory Doubt, Sr. and from their union came Gregory Jr. and Jayla-Nicole Doubt.
After college she started her career working for United States Government at NLRB as a secretary in Washington, DC from 1985-1995. She also worked for ChasenBoscolo law firm as a Case Manager from 2003-2013, where she retired after 10 years of service. Her coworkers loved her and enjoyed her caring, positive and bright energy.
She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior early in her life and was baptized at St. Benedict. Melinda became a member of Rhema Christian Center Church in 1990, where she was also baptized with the Holy Spirit. At Rhema, she learned the Word of God, attended weekly bible study, assisted with children church, served as an usher, sand with the Women’s Fellowship Choir, and received certificates from Givens Bible College. She later joined Sword of the Spirit in 2005 and was a member until her death. While there, she served as an usher every Sunday and engaged in other church activities.
Everyone who knew Melinda knows one of her favorite phases was “Lord, help my life.” Melinda loved spending time with her mother as they cruised around the world together. “Mr. Carter”, as she affectionately called her first grandson, was her heart. She spoke about him often and encouraged her daughter, Jayla, to facetime her so she could speak with him. She was very excited to hear that she would have an-other grandson on the way through her son, Gregory. After her sister’s death, Melinda became a surrogate mother to Melissa’s children, Joshua and Victoria, and she loved them dearly.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories two children, Gregory Jr. and Jayla-Nicole Doubt; her grandson Carter; her loving mother, Anna Hawkins; step-father, Robert “Bobby” Horn; niece and nephew, Victoria and Joshua Hawkins; her great-niece, Faith; and a host of sister-friends: Evelyn, Sabrena, Monica, Sherrell, Danita, Etta, Emily, and many more.
