Maria Robinette Cox Forbes was born in Washington, DC at Columbia Hospital, on August 19, 1958. The family lived in Arlington, VA until 1968 until the family moved to Marion, VA. Robin graduated from Marion Sr High School in 1976 and after graduation she attended Wytheville Community College. In 1979, Robin moved to Washington, DC where she met many of her life-long friends and the love of her life Kevin Forbes.
After a few years of dating, Kevin and Robin got married and had four beautiful children Courtney, Kevin, Keenan, and Taylor. Robin enjoyed being a mother more than anything in the world. So much so, that she spent most of her free time attending her children's extracurricular activities and sporting events. The only thing better than her time spent as a loving mother, was her time spent as an amazing grandmother, aka “NeNe.” Robin enjoyed her time with her grandsons, Xavier and Zion. Whether it was a fun weekend at the pool or her in the kitchen making their favorite snacks and meals, Robin always enjoyed time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Robin was always a personable and outgoing woman. These skills were desired traits for the career paths that she had chosen. Robin spent many years as an administrative assistant for both private and public organizations and companies. But her most purposeful and exciting career is the 18 years she spent at The Mclean School of Maryland. Robin was a devoted and loved faculty member by her colleagues, students, and families. Her dedication to her school community was evident in all that she did. Robin was more than just an administrative assistant, she was the glue of the middle school, a listening ear to anyone who needed it, and of course the queen of spirit week.
Loving, kind, funny, outgoing, and life of the party are only a few words that can be used to describe Robin but the list goes on. A lover of music and dancing, there wasn't a song she didn't know or couldn't sing to make any situation or moment special. Her legacy will continue to live on through her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Leonard R. Cox and Ruby C. Cox and sister, Esther Juan Chambers. Robin is survived by her husband, Kevin B. Forbes; daughters, Dr. Courtney L. Forbes and Taylor E. Forbes; sons, Kevin B. Forbes and Keenan B. Forbes; grandchildren, Xavier D. Reed and Milton Z. Colquehoun; brothers, Charles William (Linda) of Ontario, Canada, Robert Floyd Cox (Joanne) of DeLand Florida and Leonard Christopher Cox of Marion VA; sister, Debra Cox Velazquez of Marion VA; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
