Celebrating the, Love, and Legacy of Sergeant First Class Lynda “Dooley” Flowers, the beloved wife of Mr. Jack Best.

With hearts full of praise and gratitude for a magnificent life beautifully lived, the family announces the glorious homegoing of Sergeant First Class Lynda “Dooley” Flowers (Retired) as she transitioned from her earthly labors to her eternal reward.


SFC Flowers retired as a distinguished Dialysis Nurse Instructor at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, blending her military discipline with a profound calling to heal and educate. She possessed a tremendous heart for ministry and community service. Quietly and faithfully, she supported nursing home residents, championed health advocacy and natural wellness, led community improvement projects in her hometown of River Falls, Alabama, and served proudly as her class reunion representative. Above all, she ministered spiritually to countless people through her deep prayer, wisdom, and encouragement.


Lynda’s love and legacy will be forever cherished by her devoted husband of 28 years, Jack Best of Rockville, Maryland; her beloved daughter, Dr. Shekiah Flowers Stinson (Retired Colonel Dr. Narvaez L. Stinson) of Atlanta, Georgia; her treasured grandson, N. LaBrauns Stinson II of Wichita, Kansas; her stepdaughter, Danita Best Taylor of Waldorf, Maryland; her step-grandson, Demarcus Taylor.and her former husband, Arthur Benjamin “Ben” Flowers of Andalusia, Alabama.


She also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sibling-cousins: Elizabeth Cowan McNeal and Pam Cowan of Hemingway, South Carolina; Jackie Henderson and Coletta Garner of Fairfield, Alabama; and Barbara Amos McNeil of San Antonio, Texas.


She will be lovingly remembered by her extended Flowers family: Inell T. Flowers of Grapevine, Texas; James and Mary Flowers of Greenville, South Carolina; and Lola Gwendolyn Shakespeare, Waverly “Boot” Flowers, Roosevelt “Bud” Flowers, Sarah “Doll” Flowers Watson, and Dewayne and Lisa Flowers, all of Andalusia, Alabama.


She also leaves behind special family and friends whom she affectionately considered brothers and sisters: Edith and Gordon of Bloomfield, Connecticut; Mary Alice Milton of Petersburg, Virginia; Joe Graham of Hartford, Connecticut; and Eric Moody of River Falls, Alabama.


Lynda held a special place in her heart for her godchildren: Mecco Harris Gourdine of Montgomery, Alabama; Dr. Ivetta Biggers Maclin (Lawrence) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Brett Smith of Huntsville, Alabama, along with many of her daughter’s lifelong friends whom she embraced as family.


She was also blessed with cherished friendships that became sisterhoods, including: Eloise Gary of Hyattsville, Maryland; Mary Hightower of Columbus, Georgia; and Elzena McWilliams of Bowie, Maryland.

 

The community is invited to gather with the family across both weekends of remembrance and celebration.
