Lorna S. Marshall Obituary

Lorna Smith Marshall was born on July 2, 1926 to John Raymond Smith and Lora Scott Smith in Esmont Virginia.  She was the youngest of four children. Lorna passed peacefully in her sleep on September 19, 2023 at the age of 97.


She married the late George Dixon Marshall in 1949 and to this union were born three children; Byron Cordell Marshall, Bruce Alan Marshall and Stephanie Marie Marshall.


Lorna believed in higher education and received her Bachelors in Library Science from Virginia State College and a Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of the District of Columbia. She was a devoted member of the Saint Paul Baptist Church in NE Washington DC for over 65 years and a proud member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority for nearly 80 years.


She is survived by her sons, Byron (Anoa) and Bruce (Stephanie), her daughter Stephanie, ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, her sister Rose Edward-Thomas and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Lorna was preceded in death by her brother Lagrant Smith and sister Justine Scott-Leath.
