Lonise Melita Fisher Robinson, 93, passed away peacefully after a brief illness. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 26, 1928, Lonise was the eldest of two children (brother Oden) of Oden Howerten Fisher and Lucy Helen Koger Fisher.
Much of Lonise's life was spent as an educator with the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS): as an Elementary School Teacher, Elementary Math Resource Teacher, and Instructional Supervisor. After 32 years, Lonise retired from DCPS in 1983.
Her passion for educating others continued in retirement, as she served as an Adjunct Professor at American University, mentoring undergraduate student teachers majoring in Elementary Education. An avid reader, Pinochle and Scrabble player, and lover of music and Sudoku puzzles, Lonise had a keen and inquisitive mind. Service to her church community was an essential part of who Lonise was. She was the Church Historian at Asbury United Methodist Church in Washington, DC for 25 years, retiring in 2011.
Left to cherish her memory is Lonise's devoted husband of 68 years, Floyd Wesley Robinson, Jr. of Washington, DC; three loving sons, Dale Fisher Robinson (Christa), Mark Wesley Robinson (Lori), and Lynn Howerten Robinson (Gloria); five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends, including her very dear friend and "sister" of over 60 years, Mrs. Lucy Wynn.
