John Henry Morgan was called home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 30, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio to John Buster Morgan and Minnie Morgan. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Charles J. Morgan, and two sisters, Katie P. Childress and Shirley Morgan.
John will always be remembered as a loving brother who was fondly called John Henry by his siblings or Brother John by his aunts because he looked like his dad, John Buster Morgan. He was the first person amongst his siblings and parents to attend college. He attended Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, studying theology before being drafted into the Army to serve as a medic at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC. He set the educational bar for the rest of his immediate and extended family. John overcame extremely difficult life circumstances without bitterness and became very successful.
John was also a very wonderful and loving father and the best dad anyone could ever have. There was absolutely nothing that John wouldn’t do for his children or grandchildren. He adored them beyond measure and they loved him the same. He did it all, from making a homemade swing, building a tree house by hand, teaching the kids board games and how to swim, attending carnivals and festivals, and hopping in his truck to take his family on road trips across the United States and to Canada. He would often allow friends of his children to join the family on these road trips because he loved them as his own. He was a real family man and he loved them unconditionally. And he was extremely proud of all of their accomplishments.
John never met a stranger. He would befriend anyone. He could discuss any topic from sports to politics. He was fun, entertaining and easy to talk to, and he loved to cook out on the grill. He took pride and comfort in his outdoor space. He made sure that his backyard/patio was set up for social gatherings and entertainment, and his lawn and shrubs were always well groomed and manicured. The Morgan’s house was the place to be—safe, welcoming and full of love, and there was always plenty of food to eat.
John is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ann, and his four children, Katina (Charles), Jonathan (Letrice), Devin and Brianna. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Samantha, Jonathan Jr., and Courtney; one brother, Oscar Morgan (Sylvia); two sisters, Beatrice Perryman and Annette Reid (all of Cleveland, Ohio); one aunt, Berenice Lanier of Birmingham, Alabama and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. And we cannot forget his two canine children, Orlando and Masen, who worshipped the ground he walked on and are still waiting for him to walk through the door.
