John Cartwright Davis, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. John was a lifelong learner, public servant, entrepreneur, and a man known for his warmth, humor, steadfast perseverance, and generosity. 

John was born on May 29, 1939, in Washington, D.C., and passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026. 

In his early twenties, after the death of parents, he worked to support himself and his younger brother while pursuing higher education at Bowie State University - a reflection of the responsibility, determination, and drive that shaped his life. 

While serving in the United States Army, John earned a certificate in Radio Operations and Maintenance and was also deployed overseas to a missile site in Germany. He later earned a certificate in Electronics from Grantham School in Washington, D.C., a Bachelor of Arts degree, and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Psychology from Bowie State University.

John's professional journey reflected a deep commitment to service and community. He began his career in technical role at WOOK Radio Station, served as a counselor at the Children's Center in Laurel, Maryland, and dedicated 20 years in the District of Columbia Department of Parole, where he worked as a Classification and Parole Officer. Throughout his career, he helped guide and support many individuals. 

In 1986, John and his wife, LaVerne, became franchisees of their first Jiffy Lube. Today, Tres Cs, Inc. owns two service centers in Maryland. They both are run and operated by their son, Brett.

John was proud of his affiliations with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., HAUSAS, Inc., the Rotary Club, and the Jiffy Lube Association of Franchisees. Through these organizations, he built lasting friendships and contributed meaningfully to the communities around him. 

Throughout his life, "Johnny" embraced the outdoors and enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, skiing, and traveling. He loved playing cards with friends and extended family, and he even learned to play the drums. These experiences became the source of countless stories and cherished memories that continue to be shared amongst loved ones today.

John loved to tell stories, make people laugh, bring people together, and spend cherished time with his family and grandchildren. He had a unique ability to make people feel welcome, comfortable, and valued. 

Even through life’s challenges, John remained gracious, kind, and steady. To those who knew him, he was a cherished friend and a man whose presence brought comfort, laughter, wisdom, and strength.

John's life will be remembered for the love he gave, the example he set, and the many lives he touched through his kindness, humor, generosity, and faithfulness. His memory will remain a blessing to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. 

John was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Proctor Davis, and his brother, Leonard Davis. He is survived by his beloved wife, LaVerne Davis; his son, Brett Davis (Sara); and his treasured grandchildren, Blake, Keira, Ava, Halle, and Grant.
