Jane Adams Obituary

On Sunday morning, February 11, 2024, Jane Davis Adams awoke early, readying herself to attend service at the Zion Baptist Church. However, fate had decided that on this day, her Lord and Savior had destined her for a higher journey.

Born on May 25, 1944, to John Frederick Davis and Laura Jackson Davis, Jane completed her family unit alongside her eldest sister, Bette. Summers in Columbia Beach, Maryland, were cherished memories from her childhood. Jane was raised in the People’s Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington, DC, before eventually joining the Zion Baptist Church in May 2018.

In 1968, Jane married Robert Eugene Adams, and from their union came her beloved son, Brandon Eugene Adams Sr. Though their marriage ended, their unwavering love for Brandon remained steadfast. A proud mother, Jane was a constant presence, cheering Brandon on from his earliest days on basketball courts to his coaching career. She continued this tradition with her grandsons Brandon Jr. and Baron, supporting them on the court until shortly before her passing. She also delighted in attending her granddaughter Kaylana's ballet performances.

Jane’s education journey began in the DC public school system, leading her to McKinley Technology High School. Eventually, she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Howard University. Equipped with knowledge and skills, Jane embarked on a fulfilling career as an educator, teaching elementary school in Long Beach, California, and later within the Washington, DC’s school district. Her path then led her to become a school counselor at Roosevelt High School before transitioning into a successful real estate career in DC.

Jane embraced life with a love for sports, crossword puzzles, chess, card games, and of course Las Vegas. From tennis courts to golf courses, she thrived, earning titles like the bridge and blackjack queen. A lifelong learner, she even pursued piano and guitar lessons until her last days. As a proud member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, she embodied sisterhood, service, and scholarship. Additionally, Jane was actively involved in the Washington D.C. chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., dedicated to nurturing future leaders and building stronger communities. Her presence was felt in various organizations, including the Zion Baptist Church, Charles B. Walker Culture Club, and the Fort Stevens Senior Center, where she cultivated friendships while playing bridge.

Remembered by friends and those whose lives she touched, Jane Adams leaves behind memories of her adventurous spirit, her glamour, and her beautiful smile.

She now reunites with her parents who preceded her in death, leaving her family to cherish her memory. She is survived by her son Brandon E. Adams Sr. (wife Kareytis E. Martinez-Adams); grandchildren Brandon E. Adams Jr., Baron E. Adams, Kaylana O. Adams, and Kalyris O. Adams; sister Bette Wooden, nephew Michael Wooden, grandniece Mya Wooden, and numerous friends who knew her as family.
