Hester H.M. Adams

Hester Harrell Monk Adams passed away in Beltsville, Maryland on March 15, 2022, at age 79 after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer's. Born on June 9, 1942 and raised in Bell Arthur, North Carolina, Mrs. Adams graduated from W. H. Robinson Union School in Winterville, NC, in 1960 and St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, NC in 1964. She was a revered high school teacher in the Wake County North Carolina Public School System, and later a 5th grade teacher at St. Mark's School in Adelphi, MD. A supporter of fine arts, she was a charter member of the Prince George’s County Md. Chapter of The Pierians, Incorporated. She was also active in the Xi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated for as long as her health allowed, where she participated in numerous educational programs. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church for over 30 years where she served as a lay reader and on multiple committees. Hester was also a long time volunteer with Meals on Wheels, an avid history buff, and life-long lover of books.

Mrs. Adams is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Clement Vincent Adams, DDS. They are survived by their four sons: Clement II (Miriam), Creighton (Lynette), Corliss, and Daniel, five grandchildren: Parker, Precious, Portia, Alexandrea and Adrienne, and one great-grandson: Christian. Mrs. Adams is also survived by seven siblings: Leander Monk Jr., A. Ruth Ellis, Mary E. Jones, Effie R. Odom, Hilda Barnes, Barbara M. Sylla, and Carolyn M. Bruce-Thompson. She is preceded in death by four siblings William Moses Monk, Mattye Watson, Noah William Monk and Almetta Revis. She leaves behind scores of cherished relatives and friends.
