Harold Boyd Martin, DDS, MPH (91 years old)
Passed away suddenly, surrounded by his beloved family, at the George Washington University Hospital on February 24th, 2020. Harold was the devoted husband for 66 years to Dolores Hardwick Martin and father to Harold D. Martin II (Carolyn); Lisa Dolores Martin; Gregory Hardwick Martin; grandfather to Veronica, Trey and Jason; first cousin of Ann Martin; and countless nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends. Harold and his identical twin brother, the late Dr. Ernest D. Martin (Aurelia), were born minutes apart in October 26, 1928 to the late Major Harold D. Martin and Beatrice Boyd Martin in Petersburg, Virginia.
His education began in the DC Public schools through Jr. High and continued to the Mount Herman School in Northfield Massachusetts. His college career began at Lincoln University, (BS) then to Howard University College of Dentistry, (DDS) and Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, (MPH). In addition to his dental practice Harold devoted his professional career advancing Dental Health. He served in the US Army Corps from 1952-1954 and was honorably discharged. He retired his career as Professor Emeritus and Chair to Department of Community Dentistry/Associate Dean for Advanced Education and Research. He was inducted into the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the Robert T. Freeman Dental Society.
He was a stellar athlete in track and field through college and in the Army and had competed at the US Olympic trials. Throughout his college and professional career, Harold participated in and enjoyed many hobbies such as golf and football.
