Frances Louise Prince was born on September 19, 1940, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Louis N. Smith, Sr. and Marlene N. Smith. She became and was an accomplished pianist, organist, flutist, and vocalist. Frances earned her bachelor's and master's degrees of music from Howard University and utilized her musical gifts by teaching vocal music, in the District of Columbia Public School System, for four decades.
