Ethelda Iris Burrus, passed from labor to reward on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Doctors Hospital in Lanham, MD.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, William H. Burrus, as well as her father and mother, William Harkins, and Lou Ella (Bond) Harkins.
Born on January 8th, 1948, in La Grange, IL. and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a graduate of John Adams High School, and also attended Cuyahoga Community College. Upon moving to the Washington, DC, area, she served for over 25 years in the administrative offices of the University of Maryland. In addition, during her husband’s thirty year tenure as Executive Vice-President and then National President of the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO she would warmly open her home to family friends, and dignitaries alike.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son Richard A. Goodson, Sister Sylvia Glover Harkins, Brother Rev. Dr. Derrick Harkins (Juli), and step-daughters Valerie, Doni, and Kristy. She also held dear her nieces, Cristen Rhoden (Greg), Marcia Bryan (Billy), Lauren Harkins, Shannon Harkins, nephew Patrick Glover (Shelly Ann), grand nieces Erin (Josh), Jordan, Everleigh, Nola, grand nephew Jacob, and great nephew Remington.
