Ethel Simon Roane died on Thursday March 17, 2022 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD. She was 97 years old. Mrs. Roane was a native of New Orleans but moved to Washington, D.C with her daughter Andrea and son-in-law Michael Skehan after Hurricane Katrina. As a mother, Mrs. Roane raised her two children Andrea and Frederic with a solid foundation rooted in family values, church discipline, respect for others and education, respectfully. As an educator in New Orleans, Mrs. Roane spent 45 years teaching second grade on the parochial and public school systems. First, at Holy Ghost Catholic Elementary School, then Medard H. Nelson Elementary School, and the last 30 years of her successful teaching career at William J. Guste Elementary School.
As a member of society, Mrs. Roane was a faithful member of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, an active member in the St. Vincent DePaul Society where she served lunches weekly for the needy and in addition to her faithfulness to God she also held a membership in Top Ladies of Distinction; served as Second Vice President of her AARP Chapter #4450; a lifetime member of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. , and “a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, and Epsilon Sigma Chapter of New Orleans.
Her memories will forever be cherished by her loving daughter Andrea(Michael) and her son Frederic Roane, Jr. of Washington, D.C. , three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held in New Orleans at a later date.
