Donald Ignatius Butler, Jr. departed peacefully on November 23, 2024, at the age of 82 while living at the Sunrise on Connecticut Avenue. He was born to the late Margaret Herndon Butler and the late Donald I. Butler, Sr. on May 29, 1942, in Foggy Bottom, Washington, D.C.
Donald graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School in 1961 where he enjoyed running track. He joined the United States Military, then worked for United States Postal Service for 41 years as a Manual Distribution Clerk. The simplest pleasures in life brought great enjoyment to Donald. Among those were photography, reading, playing the lottery, walking, riding the metro and listening to music. He loved going to seafood and soul food restaurants. Recently, he even attended a Kenny G concert. In addition, he loved his longtime neighbors on Peabody Street. Most of all, Donald especially loved and treasured taking care of his dear mother.
In spite of debilitating multiple sclerosis, he maintained a positive attitude. His quick wit endured him to a legion of aging professionals, medical and non-medical, who were his tenacious advocates and care team.
Donald leaves to cherish his beloved aunts, Joyce C. Williams and Lucy Herndon; his cousins, Gerl H. Brandon, Robert Herndon, Craig Herndon and a host of family, friends and neighbors.
A special thanks to Sunrise on Connecticut Avenue, Attorney Causton Toney, Jeneice, Mustapha and Erma for their love and support.
Donald fought a good fight and his memories live in our hearts forever.
