David Mitchell Buchanan was born on September 21, 1959 to Joyce B. Buchanan and the late Robert L. Buchanan IV in Dayton, Ohio. David was their second son.
As a child, David attended school in the District of Columbia and Montgomery County Public Schools. He would later attend College at the University of Maryland.
David’s career spanned over twenty years with Giant Food. He received numerous acknowledgements, citations and awards for hard work in the Produce Department at Giant Food. David loved his job and his beloved Edgewood community. David was a quiet person who loved his family dearly, and was very close to his mother. He was always there for her unless she was off playing “Bingo”. Even through his time of illness he was more concerned about his mother than himself.
David was a huge football fan. He spent much of his free time watching games with his family. He loved his Washington sports teams above all others!! His support to the Washington Redskins (Commanders) was unshakable and always made for good conversation and laughter!
David was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Edward Buchanan and sister, Diahann Joyce Mitchell, both of Washington, DC.
David’s life will be cherished by his beloved mother, Joyce B. Buchanan, brother, Robert L. Buchanan V and devoted family members, Warrene F. Sawyer and Angela S. Rock, as well as many nieces and nephews, host of cousins, and close family friends including Sylvia, Sharlene, Wanda, Judy and Mary to name a few.
The Buchanan family would like to especially extend our gratitude to all the staff at HCR ManorCare-Adelphi in Maryland. Specifically, I would like to acknowledge his nurse Mike for the attentiveness and loving care given to David before his earthly departure on Monday, August 22, 2022.
A Memorial Mass service at St. Augustine Church to be announced.
You wonder why I went away and didn’t say good-bye
I could not bear to tell you for it hurts to see you cry
My ship came in at morning and beautiful to see
For the Captain was Lord Jesus and he beckoned me
I came across the leeway and I fell down at his feet
He gently took me in his arms and now my soul is at peace
