“A Legacy of Commitment” Daamon Karl Patterson

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, Daamon Karl Patterson finally settled to rest from his busy life at his childhood home in Washington, D.C. He was the second of three children to the late Melvyn Hill Patterson and the late Grace Heastie Patterson. His older brother, Craig P. Patterson, predeceased him.

Daamon treasured his family heritage, especially his Bahamian (mother) and Virginian (father) roots. As a child, he spent his summers in Miami, Florida, with his maternal grandmother, Katie Hanna Heastie. There, he developed a deep love for Bahamian culture, beautiful beaches, sailing, and swimming. Other holidays, especially Thanksgiving dinners, were spent at his parents' home with his father’s family. He attended and enjoyed family reunions; connecting with family was his joy.

As a product of DC Public Schools, he attended Landon Elementary School, Brooklyn Middle School, and McKinley High School, graduating with the Class of 1982. He likewise attended Howard University, majoring in Microbiology. After two years at Howard, he left to pursue his passion as a business owner. Daamon was an entrepreneur at heart. At age 10, he started a paper route business and grew to appreciate his neighbors and the neighborhood.

Daamon owned and operated a successful business, Payday Enterprise. As Principal of Payday Enterprise, his services included packing, transporting, installing, and setting up home goods and electronics, as well as landscaping. He employed and provided opportunities for others. He was dependable, timely, and ensured his employees maintained a strong work ethic. He also held himself and others to exceptionally high standards, a trait he inherited from his father.

Through the “Project Empowerment Program (DOES),” he began employment with the D.C. Government as an Environmental Records Management Specialist and advanced to Supervisor, a job he held for over 15 years. He also made time to work part-time for Chariots for Hire in Sterling, Virginia. He loved this job because it allowed him to meet and drive people from all walks of life.

His fond memories of summers with his grandmother inspired him to purchase a home by the water in Chaptico, Maryland, complete with a boat and a jet ski. He also took care to renovate his childhood home in Northeast Washington, DC, preserving it as a family residence. Daamon lived a full and exciting life. He protected the people he loved.

He will be deeply missed by his sister Keeva Patterson Harmon, (John Harmon); nephew, Joshua Yeawlé Harmon; niece, Jarena Adé Harmon; nephew, Justin Klà Harmon; aunties, Kathleen Patterson Durham, Sydney Patterson Robinson and Elva Heastie Gamble; cousins (that was extremely close), Brian Jones, Phillicia Nelson, Patriece Nelson Lee, Kimberly Higgs Hood, Carl Heastie, Linda Heastie; and special friends, Virgil Hood, Gary Williams, Linda Jordan, Paige Coward, Petrina Williams and LaJuan Jones, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
