Cynthia Brown Obituary

Cynthia Lorraine Brown was born to the late Mr. Dick Sutton and Ms. Dorothy Mundey on June 27, 1961 at D.C. General Hospital in Washington, D.C. She was raised by the late Mr. Thomas & Mrs. Bessie Alexander.

Cynthia met and married Derrick L. Brown. From that union one child was born, Demitrious Brown. She nurtured and protected him as a lioness would her cub.

Cynthia was educated in the Washington, D.C. school district. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson Senior High School in 1979. She attended The University of Maryland and graduated in 1996.

Cynthia joined the U.S. Army Reserve. She attended basic training at Fort Dix, NJ. She served her country at Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf as a Chef. Cynthia worked for The Board of Veterans Appeals as a Paralegal Specialist for a number of years. She moved on to The Office of Secretary where she held several positions until her retirement in 2004.

Cynthia accepted Christ and was baptized at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. She later moved her membership to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. where she served as an Usher, Sunday School Teacher, President of the Youth Adult Ushers and Supervisor of Junior Ushers. Seeking to know more of Christ, she joined the Freedom Way Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. George A. Fitzgerald. Cynthia loved her new church family. She worked hard in her church. She joined the Missionary Ministry and The G. A. Fitzgerald Ensemble Ministry. She remained faithful until her transition.

Cynthia loved “Butterflies”. Around the world people view the butterfly as representing endurance, change, hope and life. Cynthia carried all these qualities. She loved traveling, shopping, cooking, worshipping, and  spending time with family and loved ones. She loved eating great food and chatting at 4am in the morning with her best friend, Antionette Williams, about life.

Cynthia is preceded in death by her sister, Audrey Morton. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her beloved husband, Derrick L. Brown of Washington, DC; son, Demitrious Brown (LaKeisha) of Washington, DC; sisters, Brenda Smith of Raleigh, NC, Debra Smith (Alice) of Raleigh, NC, Ave Broadie (Derrick) of Glenarden, MD, and Rhonda Wilkins (John) of Landover, MD; brother, Barry Sutton of Fort Washington, MD; brother in law, Clarence Brown Jr. of Hillcrest Heights, MD; her best friend, Antionette Williams, and a host of other relatives and friends.
