Charles B. Neal quietly passed away on November 8, 2021, at the age of 77 while residing at Cadia Healthcare in Hyattsville, MD.
Charles was the son of the late Mansfield C. Neal, Sr. and Adelaide S. Neal, and was born on April 10, 1944 in Washington, DC. As a child he was an avid Boy Scout and acolyte at Asbury United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed music and football, especially the Washington Football Team. He expressed his love of music and singing throughout the years as a member and soloist of several choirs at Asbury including the Chancelliers, Wesleyan Choir and Voices of Praise.
He attended DC public schools and graduated from Cardozo High School. His love of learning led him to pursue a teaching degree at DC Teachers College, now the University of the District of Columbia. He often volunteered as a tutor and found joy in helping young minds understand algebra, calculus and trigonometry.
Charles held an unwavering faith in God. He believed in the power of prayer and loved to study the Bible. When he couldn’t travel downtown to Asbury, he would attend services and Bible studies at Washington DC Christian Reformed Church and developed many lasting friendships with members of this congregation.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Mansfield and Adelaide, and his brother Stewart. He is survived by his former wife, Frances, brothers, Mansfield C. Neal, Jr. and Kenneth Neal, daughters Adrienne (Jamal) and Yvonne (Morris), grandchildren Elijah and Sean, as well as a host of family and friends.
