Carmen Campbell Woingust, age 89, beloved Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt and friend, passed away on May 3, 2020 in Wheaton, Maryland. Carmen was a graduate of Miner Teacher’s College now known as the University of the District of Columbia where she also received her graduate degree. She had a distinguished career as a Demonstration Teacher and Assistant Principal at Brightwood Elementary School in N.W. Washington D.C. for 30 + years. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the Les Cliques Inc., and the Nativity Catholic Church of Washington D.C. She was a philanthropist to many charities and hospitals.
She was admired and will be greatly missed by many including her family. Her beloved husband, Norman E. Woingust, daughter Carmen (Candy) and brother, Ignacio Smith, predeceased her; she leaves her stepson, Norman F. Woingust, of Baltimore; son- in- law Aaron Barnes, of Washington D.C.; sisters, Paulina Weinstein (Donald) of North Carolina; Fabia Smith (David Montalbetti) of Georgia; nieces, Sylvia Branchcomb of New York, and Yvonne Branchcomb of New Jersey.
A Memorial Celebration of her life will take place at a later date to be announced.
Carmen Campbell Woingust will be buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Maryland.
