Beverly Anne Tucker Obituary

Beverly Anne Tucker was born on August 17, 1933, in Pittsburgh, PA. She was the third of six children born to the union of Joseph and Florence Brown. She was educated within Pittsburgh Public Schools and graduated from Oliver High School on the Northside of Pittsburgh. Upon graduation, Beverly was accepted to a federal government recruitment and employment program for her top-level stenography skills which afforded her the opportunity to move to Washington, DC.

During her early years while living in DC, Beverly attended and met a handsome soldier named Thomas at a social event at the former Carr’s Beach in Annapolis, MD. Soon after, the couple fell in love and Beverly was united in holy matrimony to Thomas Theodore Tucker, Sr., retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major who preceded her in death in January 2012. They married and had seven children, Cathy Anne, Thomas Theodore, Jr., Holly Marie, Elizabeth Regina, Tanya Irene, Beverly Jeanne, and Katurah Anne. The family lived on several Army bases, traveled oversees and lived in Okinawa, Japan for three years. In 1969, the family settled and made Silver Spring, Maryland home.

In 1978, Beverly became a member of her beloved Clifton Park Baptist Church. For 48 years, Beverly epitomized the true meaning of being a Christian. She volunteered for countless hours at the church. She served as the church clerk using her exceptional stenography (shorthand) skills while taking business meeting minutes; joined the Evangelism/FAITH Visitation ministries; and volunteered and participated in other church programs and activities. Beverly was a sweet and gentle soul. She was a good and faithful servant to the Lord.

Beverly and Thomas were caring and generous parents. Devotedly, they raised their seven children together, as well as provided love and support to their grand and great grandchildren faithfully and unconditionally without asking for anything in return.

Beverly worked in private industry for 15 years and especially enjoyed working at the former Shannon and Luchs Real Estate firm. In May 2002, Beverly retired from the federal government with 30 years of service at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our parents took pride in hosting traditional holidays and summer cookout festivities. Mom never missed celebrating a family members’ birthday, attended special events, and spent summer vacations at various beach resorts with her family. She loved traveling, solving crossword puzzles, and reading. She especially enjoyed watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy” with her husband Thomas, and in later years with Ethline, her phenomenal caretaker and friend.

Beverly was truly blessed to have had two special women in her life for an amazing 74 years, Mrs. Doris Stokes, and Mrs. Alta Wright Booth. They were her true “best friends”. Thank you Doris and Alta for always being her friend.

Beverly is survived by her seven children; two siblings Betty Gooden and Susan (Vi) Summers, and preceded in death by Eleanore Nedd, Stanley Brown, and Rosemary Dillard; two sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Beverly will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, Virginia. You are gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
