Betty L. Withers (nee Morman), of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away on February 9, 2024, at the age of 80 in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was born on April 11, 1943, in Washington, DC. A native Washingtonian, graduated from Coolidge Senior High School, and D.C. Teachers College, where she earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education, and from the University of the District of Columbia, where she earned a Masters Degree in Library Science. Betty proudly served her community as an elementary educator and librarian for the District of Columbia Public Schools for over 35 years. Her commitment to children extended to her community in Silver Spring, Maryland where she was an active member of the PTA and an enthusiastic supporter of the Girl Scouts. Betty was a loyal friend, a compassionate partner, and a second mother and sister to many in her life. Her spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Morman (nee Whitner), her father, Virgil L. Morman, and her brother, James W. Morman.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, James B. (Bert) Withers; her son Darius B. Withers (Christie Morris-Withers), and her daughter, Samara K. Withers. She was a cherished grandmother to Leila E. Withers and Ian J. Withers.
The family is requesting that donations in her memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
