Bernadine Colbert

Margaret Bernardine Colbert was born on October 26, 1926 in
Tompkinsville, Charles County, Maryland, to the late Julian A. Hill and
Elizabeth Coombs. She was one of ten children, of whom only two, William
Hill and Inez Ford, remain.

Bernadine, affectionately known as Bernie, attended public schools in
Charles County, Maryland. As a young adult, she moved to Washington, DC
and found work as a domestic. Later she became a doctor's assistant and
worked in this field until retirement. Bernardine married Mr. Francis
Edward Colbert, aka "Buck," in 1962. He preceded her in death on October
3, 1996. The couple never had children; instead, the nieces, nephews and
godchildren became their children. Bernardine was an outstanding cook;
she immensely enjoyed entertaining. Planning picnics, cocktail parties
and various outings was her thing! Family and friends meant so much to
her, especially friends Herk and Ann.

Her leisure time was spent enjoying a book, word search puzzles and
traveling. She had traveled to several countries via plane and ship. Bus
trips to various states were enjoyable too. Bernardine was extremely
devout in her faith; missing Mass was not an option. Bernardine, Bernie,
Aunt Bernie will surely be missed by those who adored her.
