Barbara Lucille Lipscomb (born Barbara Kyser) was born on February 4th, 1944, in Orangeburg, SC to Ralph & Frances Kyser. She was the oldest sibling of 4 to her brother Ralph Jr; Keith & her sister Renee (deceased). She was baptized at Calvary Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, PA as a youth.
She graduated from a Preparatory High School in Yeadon, PA in 1963 and after high school she received her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Cheney State University & Master’s Degree in Education University of District of Columbia.
After working at the USPS Barbara spent most of her professional work life as an English teacher beginning in Trenton, NJ and most notably in Spingarn High School & Francis Junior High School both located in Washington D.C. before retiring after 35+ years working with children.
Barbara moved from Philadelphia to Washington D.C. then Silver Spring, MD married Joel Russell Lipscomb on 12/27/1975 until his passing on 2/1/17 with a marriage lasting about 42 years and they were parents to one son named Mark, born in 1982.
She has been affiliated with Grace Episcopal for over 30 years and was one of the original Daughters of The King as an usher then worked at Pennyworth Thrift Store. She was heavily involved with the Christmas Bizarre Event.
Barbara enjoyed reading, teaching, history, sports, theatre, community service especially with her church & truly loved her family, friends and her community.
She is survived by her son Mark, brothers Ralph Jr. (Brenda) & Keith along with many family members including cousins, nephews, nieces & friends.
