Barbara H. Evans

Barbara Atrell Havard Evans passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. She was born on April 18, 1933 to the late Armster and Louvonia Havard. 
Barbara received a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University in 1954. She joined her beloved sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., as an undergraduate and was a Life member with more than 65 years of service. After college, Barbara earned Master’s degrees from Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University. 
For 45 years, Barbara worked as a teacher and a counselor for the Detroit Public Schools, selflessly providing loving instruction and guidance to thousands of students. 
She is survived by her son, Robert Lanard Evans; daughter, Sherri Evans Harris; granddaughters, Lauren Sherrice Harris and Liana Arielle Harris; sister, Beverly June Branham and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 
The Detroit arrangements are handled by Swanson Funeral Home.
