Antoinette Marie Dames was born November 29, 1959 in Washington, DC to the late Henry and Beatrice Dent.
She was baptized at Albright United Methodist Church by Reverend Woodrow Bartges. While as a member of Albright, she participated in Catechism classes, sang in the children’s choir and participated in Sunday School. She was educated in the DC Public School System. While attending Calvin Coolidge High School, she worked part-time at National Institutes of Health (NIH) where she gained full-time employment upon graduation. She left NIH to work for the US Postal Service where she stayed until her health started deteriorating.
Over the years, Marie as we called her, participated in the DC Youth Orchestra, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Reserves and the National Bowling League. Her favorite pastime was enjoying casinos all across the DMV.
Marie leaves to cherish her memory her spouse, Robert Dames; son, Anthony Dent (Naomi); daughter, Robin Dames; grandchildren, Kevin Dames, Jaylin Stephens, Patricia Dent, Makayla Whitfield, and twins Jordan and Keyona Dent; mother, Beatrice Dent; sister, Carol Dent Randolph; brother, Henry Dent; nephew, Clifton Randolph; niece, Ebony Randolph; aunts, Velma Harris, Helen Schofield and Grace Taylor; uncle, Ulysses Dean (Brenda); sisters-in-law, Amelia Myers-Lawson and Henrietta Guptrick-Dames and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her grandson, Keyon Dames.
