Andrew Rogers Obituary

Andrew Rogers was born on February 5, 1925, in Arima, Trinidad and Tobago, the British West Indies, to the late Ramanee Rogers and LaCro Gomez Rogers. He was one of six children, Santos, Virgina, Juanita, Cyrene, (all deceased) and Dolly. Andrew attended St. Rosa de Lima for Boy’s School in Trinidad. In 1944, he entered the Trinidad Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, which later blended with the Royal Navy. He was a Morse code operator working in radio telegraph where he served on several ships including the HMS Benbow Battleship. He met and married the love of his life Valentine Dardaine. They were blessed with five children who were born in Trinidad. While in Panama, he met Col. William Brown and his wife Dorothy who quickly became friends and sponsored him to start a new life in the United States. In 1950, he departed Trinidad for the United States, and his wife later joined him, and they were blessed with two more children; fondly known today as the “Magnificent Seven.”

Andrew was a devoted Catholic and a dedicated member of St. Francis De Sales Church where he served as an usher for many years. He was a committed father, husband, and provider for his family; he secured a position with the US Postal Service in Virginia and retired after 31 years of service in 1988.

In his later years, he enjoyed his weekly exercise and fellowship at Model Cities Senior Wellness Center, which was one of his highlights of the day and to grab lunch and head home. He enjoyed his family and their visits to the family home and springtime on the front porch. He was a quiet man, with a love for poetry and music. He would wear his “French Beret” daily and display his long silver ponytail. He simply enjoyed life and his family.

In January 2024 he suffered a seizure but managed to keep strong with medication. He celebrated his 99th birthday surrounded by family with a cupcake and physical therapy. After a short period of illness, he departed this life peacefully in his sleep at home on March 21, 2024.

Andrew leaves us to join his wife, our Mother Valentine who preceded him in death in 2008. We are blessed to have the greatest father who was gentle and kind to everyone. Everything he did, he did for his seven children and their offspring. Left to mourn are his children, Nancy (Charles), Ronald (Joyce), Richard (Allison), Ingrid, Keith (Mary), Dorothy (William), and Susan (Brian), who he leaves to cherish his memory along with his twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
