Alexis Richburg Obituary

Our beloved Alexis McAlister Richburg passed away on Monday, April 4th at the age of 48. He was born in Greenville, SC to Albert Adolphus Richburg, Sr. and Ruth McAlister Richburg on February 4th, 1974. The youngest of three sons, he graduated from Southside High School in Greenville, SC in 1992. He continued his education at Morehouse College, in Atlanta Georgia, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Finance in 1998. Alexis was a proud Morehouse Man and a standout member of the Morehouse Football and Track teams.

In 2004, Alexis married his long-time love and college sweetheart, Deidre, who attended Spelman College. They relocated to Washington, DC in 2005 where they settled and raised their family. Alexis was an Administrative Officer for DC Public Schools, and a board member for the Council of School Officers. He was also an avid cyclist and lover of all things competitive and physical. Alexis recently rode his bike with a group of friends from Norfolk, Virginia, to Savannah, Georgia (more than 800 miles!) to raise awareness for cancer and bone marrow donation in the Black community.

Alexis was a devoted husband and doting father who could be found at every dance recital, swim meet, soccer game, and gymnastics meet of his daughters. He bravely fought cancer for 8 years with great tenacity and strength, marveling all who knew him. Alexis was a conquerer and refused to be defined by his diagnosis. He touched all who knew and loved him with his warm demeanor, quiet strength, and handsome smile. He was a friend to many, and a hero to all.

Alexis was preceded in death by his father, Albert Richburg, Sr. His Maternal grandparents James McAlister and Martha Reese McAlister; and his paternal grandparents Edward Richburg and Helen Burgess Richburg; He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Deidre Solomon Richburg; daughters, Reese McAlister and Elle Solomon; mother, Ruth McAlister Richburg; brothers, Andre Richburg (Rosalyn) and Albert Richburg, Jr.; nieces , Ayana Richburg and Kaya Solomon; nephews Aquia Richburg, Amahd Richburg, Amani Richburg, Camden Solomon and Aiden Solomon; Aunts Genevieve McAlister Farmer and Jacquelyn McAlister King: brother-in-law Kinsey Solomon, Jr (Ansasha) and a host of other relatives and friends .

Alexis loved fiercely and deeply and we take comfort in knowing he is now at peace surrounded by light.
