Peter W. Smith of Washington, D.C. passed away on February 17th, 2019 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Pete was born October 1st, 1981 to William and Kathie Smith. He attended Barker Central School, Fordham University, and earned his Masters Degree in Economics from University at Buffalo. Pete was an economist with the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. He married the love of his life, Whitney Cleaver on June 7th, 2014. Their precious daughter Georgia Millie was born on November 24th, 2016.
Pete was well loved mostly due to his kind nature, sharp wit and massive knowledge of trivia. He loved the Yankees and the Buffalo Bills.
Peter was preceded in death by his sister, Mary (Jeremy) Petrus. In addition to his wife, daughter, and parents, he is survived by his sisters Erin (Greg) Goodlander and Emily (Jordan) Gow as well as his in-laws James & Meredith Cleaver and Ryan (Megan) Cleaver. He is also survived by his adoring nieces and nephews: Michael, Alexander (Nisha), Ian, Chloe & William Goodlander, Jack Petrus, Charlotte & Elanor Gow, and Madeline Cleaver.
Family and friends will receive callers in the DC area on Thursday February 21st from 3 to 6 at his home and in the Barker area on Saturday, March 2nd from 2 to 5 at Rutland Corwin Funeral Home in Newfane, NY.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials in Pete’s honor may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or to the Buffalo Bills who could use all the help they can get.
