Diane Cohen Obituary

Diane Hasbrouck Cohen, loving wife and mother, passed away on December 11, 2018, at the age of 77. She was born on January 28, 1941, in Syracuse NY, to Homer and Hilda (Harrison) Hasbrouck. She attended public schools in Syracuse and Central State University in Wilberforce, OH. She married Vincent Cohen, whom she met when he was a student at Syracuse University. They eventually settled in Washington, DC, where Vincent first practiced law with the federal government then had a long career at Hogan and Hartson law firm. They raised three children, Robyn, Traci and Vincent, Jr.

Diane realized her passion for travel and adventure by visiting many parts of the world with family and friends. In addition, she took extensive trips to Africa, where she collected African art. She also established her own company, African Hands, which sold the art she collected. She shared her passion with friends as she served on the board of the Museum of African Art, the predecessor to the Smithsonian Museum of African Art. She was beloved for her compassion and love of life; she was outgoing, kind and a friend to all who met her. The numbers of people, friends and loved ones she touched are a testimony to that spirit and compassion.

Diane was preceded in death by her husband and her sisters, Elaine Jamison, Janet Carter and Joyce Miller, and her brother, Homer Hasbrouck, Jr. She is survived by sister Dolores Clemons and her brother, Merritt Hasbrouck; her children and their spouses, Robyn and Barry Hudson, Traci and Kevin Dennis and Vincent Jr. and Lisa Cohen; and four grandchildren, Kyle Hudson, Christian Hudson, Vincent H. Cohen, III and Laila Cohen.

A private funeral was held on December 26, 2018. A memorial service will take place in January 2019.
