Samuel D. Ewing, Jr. passed away quietly at his home on the morning of April 5, 2024 with his wife, Brenda, sister Joan Thomas and caregiver, Carol Crews at his bedside. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Brenda Ewing, sister Joan Thomas and three nephews Leonard Thomas, Gregory Ewing, II and Jeffrey Ewing. He also leaves behind four godchildren, Aleya Johnson, Paris Lane, Preston Lane and Paige Lane.
Samuel graduated from Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio and then attended the University of Cincinnati where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering. He later earned his master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. He worked as an engineer for the Bendix Corporation and Norden Laboratories before attending Harvard Graduate School of Business where he earned an M.B.A.
Upon graduating from Harvard, Sam moved to New York where he held positions with Bankers Trust, Gruss & Company and Salomon Brothers before moving to the District of Columbia to serve as Director of the Federal Savings and Loan Corporation (FSLIC) during the Carter Administration where he was responsible for managing the corporation which insured the savings of over 4,000 FSLIC insured savings and loan associations and management of the Corporations then $5.6 billion insurance fund. Sam left the FSLIC to serve as the founding President of Broadcast Capital Fund, Inc., a venture capital firm for a brief period before forming his own firm, Ewing Capital Inc in 1981. He retired from Ewing Capital after more than 25 years of successful operations providing brokerage and related investment services to his clients.
