Florice T. Roper, born on January 30, 1927, in Washington, DC, was a remarkable soul who touched the lives of many. She peacefully earned her heavenly wings on March 11, 2024, surrounded by her devoted daughters in the comfort of her home.
Florice’s life was intertwined with love and commitment. She married David T. Roper, her soulmate, on December 30, 1959. Together, they shared their journey in Washington, DC until David’s passing on December 1, 1968.
Her spiritual journey began early, as a child raised by her grandmother and siblings in North Carolina. She found solace in her faith and became a cherished member of First Baptist Church in Kinston, North Carolina. As an adult, she continued her spiritual path at St. Paul AME Church in Washington, DC, alongside her twin daughters, Denise and Charice. Her unwavering commitment to St. Paul was evident through her service on the Steward Board, Missionary Board, and as an active Trustee Helper. She also held the honorable position of Deaconess at the Annual Conference.
Florice’s heart overflowed with generosity. Whether friends, family, or strangers, she was always ready to lend a helping hand. Her favorite saying, “I hath done what I could for a friend,” encapsulated her selflessness.
Her home was a haven—a place where family members and friends found refuge. She welcomed them with open arms, often announcing, “We have another cousin staying with us for a while. Let’s make room.” And her sense of humor brightened every encounter. Birthday and holiday notecards from Florice came with a twist: a delightful joke to bring smiles to recipients’ faces. You’d find both “nice” and “colorful” jokes tucked into the envelopes.
Florice’s professional journey was equally commendable. She dedicated 34 years of her life to the Public Health Service, serving as a Nurse Supervisor across various government offices. Her commitment to caring for others extended beyond her church walls.
As we bid farewell to Florice T. Roper, we hold her memory close, cherishing the legacy of love, laughter, and kindness she leaves behind.
May her soul rest in eternal peace. ️
