Adrienne Weems-White Obituary

Adrienne Natalie Weems-White “Naky” was born September 20, 1958 to the late Aaron Weems Jr. and Joyce Weems. Naky, as she was affectionately called, was the second child from this union. She was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System and graduated from Frank W. Ballou in 1977. Naky was outspoken at an early age having lots of confidence and didn’t give any deference  to anyone no matter the age or status. Naky would talk to anybody how she talked everybody. She was a stern caregiver but very loving. Everybody, especially the kids, warmed up to Naky right away. She found her passion for early childhood education at the Park Chester Youth Center while working with her mother Joyce Weems. She continued her passion as an educator with DCPS working as an Educational Aide. Her tenure with DCPS included Birney Elementary School, Simon Elementary School and Ferbee Hope Elementary School.

At the age of thirteen Naky met the love of her life, Glenn White, and they later married in 1979. From this union they had four children Glenn Jr, Gerard, Adrienne and Khadijah.

Naky enjoyed watching her Washington Redskins, playing card games and watching crime tv until the wee hours of the night. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and taking them on daily walks to the store to buy candy.

Naky loved cooking, cleaning, and giving advice about home remedies to any and every one that would listen. Her love for using Gentian Violet will live on as a Weems/ White tradition. Naky made the hottest hot sauce in Washington DC. Her loving candor was also to her friends. She provided a listening ear with a straightforward answer. Being a “neat freak”, she was also known for throwing other people’s belongings in the trash if the items stood in the way of her cleaning. She knew just the right amount of chemicals to mix to make sure the house was clean without blown everything up. Naky was also a plant whisperer. All she needed was a cut and a container of water and within weeks the plant would have roots and grown a couple of inches.  Naky’s shopping sprees where legendary and she was known for walking every aisle to make sure she didn’t miss anything. Her daughter affectionately named her “Shopping Sheryl the Wonder Girl”!

Naky was proceeded in death by her parents Aaron Weems, Joyce Weems and James Cole

She leaves to cherish Glenn White Sr., her four children Glenn White Jr. (Danielle); Gerard White (Latishe Boyd); Adrienne White (Darrell Wilson); and Khadijah White. Ten grandchildren Amirah, Serenity, Ava, Amari, Samir, Yair, Bryce, Eden, Bailey, and Emaree. Siblings the “Great Eight”, as they affectionately called themselves, Jerome Weems, Janine Weems, Steven Weems, Anitra Weems, Nathan Weems, Terris Weems and Travonne Weems. Three bonus brothers Jerome Cole, James Cole Jr. and Nathaniel Cole.
