Merita Stine Johnson was born on August 17, 1949 to Clarestine and J. Jethro Johnson.  Affectionately known as "Rita", she grew up in Burgaw, North Carolina and was the third of four children and the only daughter.  Merita will be remembered for her love of God, commitment to her family and her pure adoration of Marcellus, who made her so proud.
She is survived by her son, Marcellus J. Clement; her mother, Clarestine R. Johnson; two brothers, George Henry "Abasi" Johnson (Susan) and Charles Edward Johnson (Joyce); sister-in-law, Z. Sue Johnson, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and friends.  Merita was predeceased by her husband, Mansfield Clement; her daughter, April Johnson; her father, J. Jethro Johnson; and her brother, J. Bernard Johnson.
The family is grateful for Merita's vibrant life and thanks all of the medical professionals who cared for her and helped to prolong the life they all cherished so much.
